My Take on Manulife’s Critical SelectCare

Manulife Critical SelectCare Aviva MyMultiPay Critical Illness Plan IV AIA Beyond Critical Care w/ Early Critical Cover Extra Rider Tokio Marine MultiCare Manulife Ready Complete Care AXA Super CritiCare FWD Recover First
Annual Premiums $1422.80 $1,465 $3,104.80 $1,165 $1,475 $1,165 $1,124

Premiums are based on a 30-year-old male, non-smoker with a sum assured of $100,000, with policy term up to age 75, with the exception of Manulife’s Critical SelectCare, which is based on a 40-year-old male, non-smoker with a sum assured of $100,000.

In comparison with the annual premiums across the critical illness plans available in the market, Manulife’s Critical SelectCare has a higher premium with lesser critical illnesses Conditions and Special Conditions covered (7 CI Conditions and 2 Special Conditions).

However, you must remember that this policy isn’t created for everyone.

They’re specifically targeted as those aged between 40 – 70, have difficulties getting CI plans, and have any of the below:

  • High blood pressure,
  • High blood sugar,
  • High cholesterol, or
  • Diabetes

Naturally, you’ll be facing higher premiums, exclusions, or even rejection from the traditional CI plans in the market.

Therefore, Manulife gives you this opportunity to get yourself covered, albeit at steeper premiums.

The Manulife Critical SelectCare has the following benefits for consideration too:

  • Provides coverage for 7 Advanced Stage Critical Illnesses.
  • Receive 25% of the basic sum assured if no claims have been made or paid out upon policy term due date.
  • Receive 25% of the sum assured, up to $25,000 for Special Conditions.
  • $10,000 Death Benefit.

The policy also has its downsides as well. These include

  • High premium amount with lesser Critical illnesses and special conditions coverage.
  • Only applicable for individuals above 40 years old.
  • Maximum sum assured of $250k.

Despite this, it could be your only choice.

Otherwise, if you think this is your only option, speak to a financial advisor to understand if there are better plans for you.
